Dieter Dudy Obituary, Former Kamloops Councillor Dudy Passed Away At 71
Dudy, a dedicated community member and former Kamloops city councillor, passed away over the weekend, leaving behind a legacy of public service, farming, and community engagement. He owned Thistle Farm, an organic vegetable farm nestled in Westsyde, where he was a familiar face at the Kamloops Regional Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, selling fresh produce and sharing his love for sustainable farming.
Dudy’s political journey began in 2011 when he ran for mayor and narrowly missed unseating incumbent Peter Milobar. His passion for civic issues led to his election to Kamloops city council in 2014, a role he held until 2022. Known for his balanced, centrist approach, Dudy was respected among colleagues for his measured and thoughtful stance on civic matters. He also ran for mayor again in 2022, finishing as the runner-up to Reid Hamer-Jackson.
Beyond politics, Dudy was a committed community advocate. In 2023, he notably spoke out on behalf of Westsyde farmers threatened with water supply issues due to the planned decommissioning of the Noble Creek Irrigation System. He was also a regular participant in the community’s annual Harvestfest, where he opened his farm to guests and cooked dinner for dozens.
